Sending Away the Plague God: Latest Research Advances in Appropriate Technologies for Eliminating Schistosomiasis—Jiangsu Institute of Schistosomiasis Control

[Abstract] After more than 60 years of comprehensive control efforts, China is now moving toward the stage of eliminating schistosomiasis. This article reviews several appropriate technologies that have been applied in field practice for schistosomiasis elimination in China’s endemic areas in recent years, including techniques for identifying infective snails of Schistosoma japonicum, snail control measures, methods for detecting Schistosoma japonicum infection in human populations and livestock, as well as information technologies. The aim is to provide reference evidence for formulating China’s schistosomiasis elimination strategies and selecting appropriate tools for on-site elimination in endemic areas.
